Cynthia is the founding director of Island Health Inc., serving as its Executive Director since 2002, and appointed in 2015 by the Board of Directors as Chief Executive Officer. Her background in public service and management includes over 30 years as an elected official in the Town of West Tisbury where she is currently in her 22nd year as a member of the Board of Selectmen. She served as that town’s full-time elected Treasurer from 1986-2003. Cynthia became interested in health care and community health planning through her membership on the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital’s Board of Directors from 1990–1996. She served as that Board’s chair, and went on to chair the Dukes County Health Council from 1998-2002, and again from 2004-2008. She founded Island Health Care, Massachusetts’ first Rural Health Clinic, in 2004 and led the organization to its present designation as a Federally-Qualified Community Health Center.
